Just came back from watching the Oscars at the Angelika theatre, Great to see the legend ROGER CORMAN there, finally getting his respect.....I'm still waiting for Roger's name to be announced for this years show ! And what about that great horror film tribute ? I would have liked to see some more horror actors in the clips, NO footage of Price, Cushing, Lee. Lorre, Carradine, etc..... Do horror film fans really love faceless aka masked monsters THAT much ??? Maybe I'm just too old now to really get it. Oh, by the way, I won two week-end passes to this years show !!!! BAD ASS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just want to know when movies like Twilight and Sixth Sense became horror movies??? Aside from The Shining and Friday the 13th, did they even show a horror movie clip??

Don't get me started. Twilight, Sixth Sense, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, tcm the next generation? wtf...were was the real horror? They put more screen time for scream then night of the living dead. The ring? C'mon really....you want new horror put the amazing Dawn of the Dead remake in there or at least the 1st Saw. They should have consulted someone who knew horror before putting that together. I came up with so many movies last night that needed to be in there.

Good for Corman but you know who should get a Honorary Oscar? George Romero

It was also nice to see Bob Murawski co-owner of GRINDHOUSE RELEASING - win the Oscar for best Editor. For those unfamiliar we can thank Murawski for Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox, I Drink Your Blood, The Beyond, Cat In the Brain, and Pieces getting decent dvd releases. Not to mention putting Evil Dead back in theatres this spring.

I thought the tribute was really cool but like everyone else, I wondered why they used some of the movies they did. ESPECIALLY......Fucking Twilight. That is not a horor movie. There is nothing scary about a bunch of gay ass sparkling vampires and CGI werewolves!!!

I'm not getting my panties in a knot over the segment. Here's why:

~I don't think that it was a GREAT tribute, but hell, it's about time they did a nod to horror...besides, they didn't HAVE to do it. There wasn't even a horror film in any of the top categories this year anyway.

~To be honest, the whole segment didn't fit, and they could have cut it (AND that DUMB-ASS "dance troupe" thing) so that I wasn't falling over when they skidded into home plate around MIDNIGHT.

I would have liked them to flesh it out more and have added it to another year's Oscars, hopefully one that (soon) has a horror movie in the runnings.

On another note, for those who were wondering where the true horrorwas...it was seeing that "Precious" chick in that tent-sized blue dress. I had to check and see that she wasn't supposed to be Violet in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...they could have just rolled her to the Juicing Room...

We just kept yelling, "The 'Blueberry' is on again!!!" everytime they showed her...

On a separate note (hence the 'separate' post, 'cause I'm all smart like that) is that I am SO glad that THE HURT LOCKER won Best Picture and Director over that piece of crap, eye-candy, CGI-dripping, blue lizardfest AVATAR.

It just goes to show that no matter what you have for special effects, you can't go wrong with a great human interest, realism-based movie. 8)

I'm so tired of Avatar. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good. I wasn't impressed with the visuals, they were good but not extraordinary. Cameron just marches around like some hitler knockoff making people scared to be honest. Thanks to that damn movie now every decent movie is going to ruined by trying to come out as 3D

lol! I personally was happy to see Grimace win his first Oscar. It couldn't have been easy being stuck in Ronald McDonald's shadow all these years.

Yep. I loved Avatar, but it's waaayyyyy overhyped, and too many people kiss Cameron's ass. I've loved all of his movies that I've seen, but he's by no means 'king of the world'. I think the only reason why he's so highly regarded by Hollywood is because he can turn a dollar into 100 million dollars just like that.

I'm still torn on this whole 3D thing. I loved it when I saw Avatar and The Final Destination, but I suspect more unnecessary movies will incorporate it, just to try to have that edge, and it will become very annoying.

And I'm also glad Hurt Locker got best picture. That movie rocked. I wish I had actually watched the Oscars, just to see the look on Cameron's face when he realized just how bad he got smoked by his ex-wife. She's deserved this kind of recognition ever since Strange Days and Near Dark.

Oscar's don't ever get it right anyway...So many things I can point out...the fact that Shakespeare in Love won best picture over Life is Beautiful and Saving Private Ryan back at the 1999 show could get 3 pages of words out of me so I won't start on the 15-20 examples I have.

I'll just say Quentin Tarantino is one of the most under appreciated directors out there. He make's movies too good for the general public and the academy. I was happy to see basterds given some credit this year, Hurt Locker was good as a whole and deserved to win, Still I think Basterd's was a close 2nd. I actually feel the script for basterds was better written then Hurt Locker and that it should have won for original screenplay. Going back in time The fact that Kill Bill Volume 1 got no nominations back in the oscars 2004 boggled my mind. That movie is one of the best films of the last 20 years. Hell Seabiscuit was nominated for best picture over it...yes..the damn horse movie

I agree on Saving Private Ryan and Kill Bill (at least with Volume 2), those 2 movies got screwed so bad by the Academy. I remember being so pissed that Jackie Brown only got 1 nomination.
I wasn't a big fan of Basterds at all, but I like that QT is getting Academy recognition.

Well the Oscars had a somewhat connection to horror. Kathryn Bigelow (and it was her night) DID direct the gem called "Near Dark" So hopefully now that people know her name will look up and watch her body of work and see that awesome directors can direct awesome horror movies as well.

She also did Point Break.... which, once you can get past Reeves giving us some of the worse acting ever, is a fun movie!
